Phase 1 Complete
Well, its taken nearly three months to complete when we'd expected to get it done in two weeks, but phase one of the main site upgrade is now complete.
We are now open again for site suggestions, but please be reminded that until we have completed the transfer of our previous records we will not begin reviewing new site suggestions so it may be a while before we get around to looking at your site.
Here's a run-down of what's been done so far, and what remains to be completed:
Qango Revenue Street Affiliate Directory moved to a new location
Qango Central completely rewritten with more information and help files
All Qango pages updated from .shtml files, to .html files for compatibility
Main site search engine software upgraded to new fast SQL version (second phase due November 2000)
Faster SQL based advertisement server installed to speed up page loading
Old category structure completely removed
New category structure developed and partially deployed (6000+ due with phase two later in the year)
All main site categories moved to new /or/ location for defined Qango site grouping
Previous site listings partially transferred to new database (this will continue until all sites have been reviewed, before we review any newly suggested sites)
Link-Partner program moved to new location
New listings now represent those recently added, rather than being based on the date the site was originally suggested (this accounts for the New section previously being empty all the time)
New section for Adult-only related links (previously in various categories), with updated site suggestion guidelines
New features and facilities have also been added:
Matching categories displayed with first page of search results
New Super Listing and TopSites upgrades available for listings
Use of +word and -word for search tool
Qango Personals now available
Chat forums expanded
New '@' related categories
Remaining changes for phase two of the main site upgrade which is due around November 2000:
Category expansion to 10,000+ categories (currently limited until second part of upgrade becomes available)
Option for 'Search Only in this category'
